Navigational Safety And Environmental Protection In The Straits Of Malacca: The Need For Global Funding

Few issues are more emotional than those concerning states rights to manage their own environment or the exercise of jurisdiction in their own territories. This paper examines a coastal state’s right to enforce jurisdiction in its territorial sea forming part of a strait used for international navigation e.g., the Straits of Malacca. Except for the right of innocent passage the coastal state’s right in its territorial sea is absolute.
