Abstract
The threat to maritime security in the Strait of Malacca includes non-traditional security issues that have an impact on the development and stability of a nation and even mankind. Nontraditional threats posed by non-state actors
have always been a major concern to Malaysia as they will invariably impact on Malaysia’s national interests. These threats include the trafficking of humans, arms, narcotics and consumer goods. This paper addresses the threat of trafficking of humans, arms, narcotics and consumer goods in the Straits of Malacca. The second part of this paper elaborates national and regional counter-measures to combat these threats.
