Khalid, Nazery (2006) Securing The Perimeters: Some Thoughts on Maritime Security Measures Post 9-11. In: Reliability, Availability, Maintainability & Safety 2006 Conference, 26-27 April 2006, Crowne Plaza Mutiara, Kuala Lumpur. (Submitted)
Abstract
This paper discusses maritime security in the context of the post 9-11 security framework and provides an overview of the initiatives to enhance security in ports, shipping and the
maritime supply chain. It then evaluates the effectiveness of the initiatives taken by the international maritime community to address the perceived threats arising from the 9-11 attacks. The paper also looks at some of the pertinent issues related to compliance with these security measures, and advocates a security framework based on a realistic risk
assessment to make it more palatable to maritime industry players and stakeholders.
