Should Malaysia Join The Us Maritime Domain A Wareness Scheme?

In the March 2-4 ASEAN Regional Forum in Singapore, the United States proposed that the littoral states of the Malacca Strait participate in a new security initiative, the “Maritime Domain Awareness” (MDA). The new initiative is defined as “the effective understanding of anything associated with the maritime domain that could impact the security, safety, the economy or the environment”. The MDA is envisioned as a comprehensive, timely and detailed depiction of events, conditions and trends in the maritime domain.
