Abstract

The Security in the Malacca Straits has become a burning issue because of the U.S proposal to intervene in the Straits of Malacca through its Regional Maritime Security Initiative (RMSI). The U.S is concerned over the movement of cargo relating to Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD) through the straits and the possible threat from terrorist to international shipping in the Straits of Malacca. The RMSI is part of the U.S Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) in its global war on terrorism.
