Abstract

The growth of international and domestic trade directly increases the risks on marine pollution. The need for proper facilities for ship waste to be discarded at ports is essential to reduce the probability of increased marine pollution from ships. One of the measures required by MARPOL 73/78 to address this is the provision of waste reception facilities at ports. Malaysia being a responsible party
to this convention is therefore required to have these facilities.
